The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is recognized by The Carnegie Foundation not only in its highest tier for “research activity,” but also in its “community engagement” category, making it one of a select few nationally to achieve both classifications. UAB’s population of 11,000 undergraduate and 6,500 graduate students benefit from a student-to-faculty ratio of 18 to 1, in addition to 49 undergraduate major fields of study, 47 master’s programs and 38 doctoral programs.

UAB is home to more than 150 student organizations, including 16 international groups, as well as exciting Division I athletics. The International Scholar and Student Services (ISSS) office advises foreign students from 109 countries and assists visiting international faculty and students in matters of immigration, federal and state taxation, and orientation to the Birmingham community. Birmingham enjoys a moderate climate with four different seasons.
