Founded in 1818 by George Ramsay, Scotland’s ninth Earl of Dalhousie and Nova Scotia’s Lieutenant-Governor of the day, Dalhousie was modelled after the University of Edinburgh.

World-class academic programs. Low student-to-faculty ratio. Just steps away from the Atlantic Ocean. This is Dalhousie, one of Canada’s oldest universities.

Situated in the heart of Halifax, Nova Scotia – often referred to as a true university town – our historic buildings may be covered in ivy, but we’re anything but elitist. In fact, we’re just the opposite. Here you’ll find a warm East Coast vibe and a host of internationally-recognized programs all on one beautiful campus. Law, medicine, English, engineering, oceanography, dentistry or architecture – take your pick, comprehensive degree programs (the most in Atlantic Canada) in a place where academic tradition blends with break-through thinking and research – just as Halifax blends coastal charm with the buzz of a vibrant city.
