Introduction

Whitireia is a government owned technical institute with seven campuses over four locations and over 13,000 students from both New Zealand and overseas. The key factor that make it so popular for international students are the small class sizes and friendly, approachable teaching staff. Pathway opportunities allow students to enter programmes and staircase from certificate or diploma study and gain credits from undergraduate degrees. All programmes are of a practical and vocational nature offering students first hand industry experience with real-life projects.

Whitireia’s Main campus is located in Porirua, Wellington, 20 minutes north of the city centre beside the harbour and very close to the train station, shopping malls and recreation facilities as well as offering free parking to students.

The Auckland campus is in the heart of the Auckland City central business district. It specialises in English, Business, Hospitality, information technology and Early Childhood Education programmes for international students.

Introduction: Employers contacted in the employer survey indicated that they are very satisfied with the job skills Whitireia graduates bought to their businesses and the qualifications graduates obtain are relevant to their industry needs

  • Programmes such as the Diploma in Professional Cookery has over an 80% success rate with students gaining employment after their completion of the programme
  • The Bachelor of Applied Business Studies features a 3 month industry project in conjunction with local businesses and organisations

The Bachelor of Information Technology programme features a 3 month industry project to work on where students use their IT knowledge to provide various solutions and strategies.


Student Satisfaction

Introduction: In 2012, Whitireia continued to excel at providing quality, industry related training. Students when surveyed were very satisfied with the programmes they enrolled in and the support they received to meet their needs.

  • The majority of our graduates commented that they would recommend the programmes they completed to future students
  • 85% of students surveyed remarked that they were satisfied with the standard of teaching
