Roehampton was established in its current form in 2004 to bring together four historic colleges which date back to the 1840s. The University of Roehampton has one of the most diverse communities of students in the UK and was also among the first higher education colleges in the UK to admit women.   • In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), the University of Roehampton was rated number one for its research in Dance, a department which has the fifth highest concentration of world-class activity of any department in the country in any subject.
  • 80% of research submitted in Biological Anthropology was rated internationally excellent or World class, making it the top department in the UK.
  • The Drama department also achieved a ‘top 20’ status.

 

Variety of Courses

Roehampton has nine independent academic departments and a business school, providing a range of Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses.

  • Nine academic departments house a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses and are independently responsible for their own programmes.
  • Students at Roehampton can choose flexible courses of either single or joint honours, as well as some options in other modules, such as languages, Citizenship or Wellbeing and Lifestyle.

Student Satisfaction

Roehampton rates highly for student satisfaction, particularly with international students.

  • In the 2010 i-Graduate survey of international students Roehampton ranked top out of 14 participating London universities in 11 survey areas.
  • The latest National Student Survey showed that 79% of Roehampton students were overall satisfied with the quality of the course.
  • Respondents particularly noted their satisfaction with how enthusiastic their lecturers were and how well they explained things; both areas were rated at 84%.
  • Students are also able to take place in a range of extra-curricular activities such as the RoeActive athletics club which has strong links to the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and Chelsea Football Club.

 

Employable Graduates

The University of Roehampton is the top new university in London for graduate employment.

  • 86% of students were in either work or employment 6 months after graduation according to the latest National Student Survey of graduates in 2008.
  •  72% of leavers had secured a graduate level job within 6 months of completing their course.
  • Students are also able to access Roehampton’s Employment and Careers service for one-to-one and e-guidance on careers and finding employment, including specific advice for international students.

 

Location

The University of Roehampton is set within a historic parkland campus in South West London. The University grounds encompass four colleges: Digby Stuart, Froebel, Southlands and Whitelands, each of which have an individual spirit and community. The campus was ranked number one for Campus Environment In the Times Higher Education’s Student Experience Survey 2009. Each college has its own accommodation, conferences and social activities. On campus, students can participate in a range of social and extra-curricular activities such as an Acoustic or open mic night, comedy evening and the annual Fresher’s and Christmas balls.

The University of Roehampton is situated in a lively area of London, close to Putney, Richmond, Hammersmith and Kingston and only 30 minutes from central London. Public transport links are reliable and frequent, making it easy to take advantage of all the capital has to offer. London provides a vast array of activities and events, such as the National Gallery for art, the British Museum, the 2012 Olympics, nightclubs, shopping, markets and theatre, as well as international transport links to the rest of the UK and overseas.
